Trains At RiverBend
The History of the RiverBend
and
Southwest Florida Railroad
The RiverBend and Southwest Florida Railroad Club began in 2008 as a
labor of love and has grown into being a real part of this community.
Train buffs from around the country come here to view and participate
in our railroad which operates every Saturday morning from
Thanksgiving until May. The railroad is located in the RiverBend
Motorcoach Resort at 5800 W. State Road 80 in Labelle, Florida.
We have over 1500 feet of track with pneumatically controlled
switches, a 35 ft. long trestle, two rivers, and three villages
named Alligator Flats, RiverBend, and Frogmoor.
We run FN3 and G Scale narrow gauge trains. Our trains are battery
operated, remote controlled and are exact replicas of trains that
are still running today. We have 9 locomotives and over 60 pieces
of rolling stock. All buildings in the village, automobiles, etc.
must be built to a 1-20.3 scale and be of the 1920 to 1950 era.
We try our best to keep things authentic including all live
plants, which thrive here in Florida.
We have a 35 ft. long trestle which is hand built on a homemade jig
and has 777 hand cut cedar boards, stands 13" high and has 55 bents
(the part that holds the trestle up). It has seven five foot sections
which can be removed and stored indoors in inclement weather.
The buildings in the towns are all handmade, painted and decorated
by two of our resident artists. The railroad is financed solely by
the club members and is not the financial responsibility of the
RiverBend Resort owners.
